From Hans Christian Andersen to Hulk
Augustenborg Castle Park retells the story of its planting and usage. Historical trees, each with their own stories.
The previously huge linden tree, reduced to a stump and an iron strut, once bestowed shadow on Hans Christian Andersen, sitting on a bench, drafting poems. The ice mound, which was used to store blocks of ice for the castle's household. And at the far end of the park lies Augustiana, an area with four mansions; today the place is an art centre as well as art-park. This part of the park contains sculptures, and a few steps into the park, the visitors are greeted by a large green Hulk...
Until 2015, the castle was the setting for a psychiatric hospital. Today it is the workplace for the Danish Agricultural Agency, and some of the other buildings are art projects, the newest addition being the Augustenborg Project with café and exhibitions.
