Gelting Birk – A Nature‘s Paradise at the Baltic Sea
Gelting Birk (bay) is a beautiful waterway nestled between the Flensburg Fjord and the Baltic Sea. It is a sanctuary for 200 bird species, wild horses and Galloway cattle in midst of a wild, varied landscape that has been a nature reserve since 1934. Moors, dunes, heathland and, of course, water, characterise the 773-hectare area. Visitors can explore Gelting Birk on foot, by bicycle or even on horseback. At the entrance, they are greeted by the old Dutch mill "Charlotte", which used to be responsible for draining the bay. Wedding couples can get married in the Falshöft lighthouse - with a view of the natural paradise of Gelting Birk.
