Imagine buying things that you find interesting from all over the world. Or having them rebuilt at home, see and touch them, and showing them to your friends! Frederick III. did just that. He was a duke, living at Gottorf Castle about 400 years ago, and he was a notoriously curious man. The castle contained a library, an extra cabinet of art and curiosities, and a large garden. In his cabinet of art and curiosities, he collected technical objects, plants and works of art from all over the world. Thus, his castle was known throughout Northern Europe. He even built a huge walk-in globe, which showed a map of the planet earth on the outside and the starry sky of the Milky Way on the inside. Go and see it for yourself at Gottorf Castle!
