The "Flensburg Cream Slices" serve musical delicacies with works by Johann Strauss, Robert Stolz, Gerhard Winkler, and others. The performers are Kasia Bikowska (violin), Ulrike Stüve-Koeppen (flute), Gabriel Koeppen (cello), Kai Stemmler (double bass), and Christian Spevak (piano).
*Salon music is a term for entertaining, easily accessible, often particularly virtuosic or sentimental music. The genre of salon music predominantly consists of arrangements of opera and operetta arias as well as of social dances. Furthermore, it comprises "poetic" instrumental pieces that are meant to tell a story or create an atmosphere. Franz Schubert composed music for the Biedermeier salons in Vienna, which is still accepted as concert music today. Besides the musical amateurs who took to the salon pieces, there were professional, mainly artistic salon music: The composer Jacques Offenbach, for instance, began his career in the Parisian salons as a virtuoso on the cello. Franz Liszt shone as a piano virtuoso in the salons.
