Mascha Kaléko – Seiltänzerin ohne Netz
“Tear up your plans. Be clever. And hold on to miracles.”
The Lower Saxon Stage Flensburg is pleased to present a special guest performance: “Mascha Kaléko – Tightrope Walker without a Net”, a scenic-musical theater evening by Rainer Hansen.
Mascha Kaléko was the unmistakable voice of Berlin in the 1920s and 1930s. As a significant representative of New Objectivity, she thrilled a wide audience with her poetry, which was as clever as it was down-to-earth. With fine humor, a sharp eye, and great humanity, she found the words for the worries, hopes, and yearnings of the people of her time – creating texts that have lost none of their relevance to this day.
The theater evening traces the poet's moving life journey: from her successes in the Berlin literary scene around the legendary Romanisches Café, through the expulsion by the Nazi regime and exile in New York and Jerusalem, to her rediscovery in Germany after World War II. Biographical milestones intertwine with Kaléko's timeless poems and texts that tell of love, homelessness, loss, and an unwavering belief in the power of life.
In the roles are Christina Müller as Mascha Kaléko, Tim Jürgensen in the roles of the significant men in her life, and Oke Hansen as the musical narrator. Author and director of the piece is Rainer Hansen.
An evening full of poetry, music, and touching stories that brings the life and work of an extraordinary writer to life while also offering a glimpse into the challenges and hopes of a turbulent era.
