Ball im Savoy
Paul Abrahams' delightful operetta of success tells the crazy story of a whirlwind ball night with great wit. Among the illustrious guests are a newly married couple who don't take loyalty quite seriously, a young woman for whom a male pseudonym seems to be the only way to be taken seriously as a composer, and a Turkish diplomat who falls in love repeatedly. For Abraham, these are the best ingredients to test moral boundaries and turn classic role models upside down.
Devoid of any sentimentality, Abrahams' music manages to touch the heart and excites with a frivolous zest for life between foxtrot and kangaroo hop – a must for our ballet ensemble! The exhilarating mix of jazz, Viennese charm, Yiddish klezmer, and Hungarian csárdás creates a portrait of the golden 1920s in Berlin, which celebrated itself and its spirit at the premiere in 1932 for the last time.
