On behalf of Uncle Titus, the Three Investigators are sent on a rainy night to ZEUS, a now-closed resort in the middle of nowhere in the Nevada desert. They are to pick up old but functional slot machines. However, the relentless downpour makes it impossible to drive home. Justus, Peter, and Bob manage to convince the taciturn caretaker to let them stay overnight at the nearby motel. But when more unexpected guests arrive, dark secrets about the remote location are revealed. In fact, a real UFO is said to have crashed nearby. And then Peter discovers a phantom-like figure haunting the area.
Phantom Highway is now the sixth adventure of the popular youth detectives, told as a graphic novel. Along with references to the horror classic by Gaston Leroux, 50s sci-fi, and retro games, this case also offers musical surprises. These are from the pen of New York songwriter Phoebe Kreutz. Once again, the overall work is credited to the proven team of Calle Claus and Christopher Tauber.
