St. Martin Andacht mit Laternenumzug

  • Family & kids

St. Marien warmly invites all children and adults to the devotion and the subsequent lantern walk on November 8.

Saint Martin is known for his mercy. When he was still a Roman soldier, he shared his cloak with a beggar. For this reason, Martin is often depicted as a soldier on a horse. Later, the people made him a bishop. Martin's concern for the poor and the small allows God's love to shine through in the world, like a light in the darkness. His kindness and life story are the background of the Martin's customs.
We begin with a service in St. Mary’s Church, where the story of St. Martin is vividly told to the children. With the sparkling lights of the lanterns brought along, everyone then follows St. Martin, who leads the group through the city on his horse, singing songs together.
