Die Bergmühle presents the Iranian drama "The Seed of the Sacred Fig Tree" (2024) by Mohammad Rasoulof.

Iman has just been promoted to investigating judge at the Revolutionary Court in Tehran when a massive protest movement sweeps the country following the death of a young woman. Although the demonstrations are increasing and the state responds with harsher measures, Iman chooses to side with the regime, thereby destabilizing his family. While the devout family man struggles with the psychological strain of his new job, his daughters Rezvan and Sana are shocked and electrified by the events. His wife Najmeh desperately tries to keep everyone together. Then Iman discovers that his service weapon is missing, and he suspects his family...

With "The Seed of the Sacred Fig Tree," Mohammad Rasoulof delivers a masterpiece: an angry and unvarnished reckoning with the oppressive regime in Iran, told as a brilliant, breathless political thriller filled with authentic images of the protests in autumn 2022 that shook the country to its core. It is a film made under difficult circumstances, secretly shot in Iran, whose impact is so great that Rasoulof felt compelled to leave his homeland just before its world premiere in the Cannes competition.

The film is dubbed in German and runs for 160 minutes. Admission is free. Donations are welcome.
