Was Arbeit erzählt
Reminding of intertwined stories of a plural society
Dialogue & Exchange
Our society is as diverse as the people who live in it. Work plays a crucial role as an experience in all our lives, albeit in very different ways. Work often takes center stage in our daily lives and family biographies and has shaped German history. At the same time, the history of work in our country has many faces, such as wage labor, care work, forced labor, or the specific working biographies in the GDR. These many stories are intertwined and significantly shape the memory of our society.
For our democratic cohesion, the perception of this plurality is relevant. With the event series, the Heinrich Böll Foundation Schleswig-Holstein seeks to expand the culture of history and remembrance to include various historical experiences. From different perspectives, the question is asked of which stories of work are told in our society and how they can be remembered to discuss their potential to strengthen democracy.
