Schloss vor Husum – Renaissance, Kultur und Krokusblüte an der Nordsee

The Schloss vor Husum is one of the most significant attractions in Husum and the only territorial castle on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast. Surrounded by a moat and the idyllic castle park, the historic Renaissance castle connects northern German history with diverse cultural experiences.
Built between 1577 and 1582, the castle museum invites you to discover the former living quarters of the ducal family, the magnificent knights' hall, the castle chapel, and the princely box. Changing art exhibitions in the attic gallery and the Poppenspäler Museum with historical hand puppets and marionettes make the visit particularly varied for culture enthusiasts and families.
A highlight is the adjoining castle park, which transforms into a sea of lilac blossoms during the famous Husum crocus bloom in spring. A walk through the park can be ideally combined with a stroll through the Husum old town or a visit to the inland port.
Opening hours: The castle museum is open year-round from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. The museum is also closed on December 24 to 26, as well as on December 31 and January 1.
Accessibility: The castle is partially accessible. An elevator connects the floors, allowing most exhibition rooms to be reachable by wheelchair. The castle tower and south wing are exceptions. An accessible toilet is available; an audio guide in easy language is also provided.
