St. Nicholas Church Flensburg – Historic Church at Südermarkt

The St. Nicholas Church in Flensburg is one of the most significant churches in the harbor city and shapes the Südermarkt in the heart of the historic city center. The Protestant Lutheran church serves as an important venue for services, church music, and cultural events, combining centuries-old history with a vibrant community life.

A highlight is the large Nikolaikirche organ, whose history dates back to the 16th century. The current organ rebuilt in 2009 combines historic and modern elements, and it is considered one of the special musical treasures of Flensburg. The historic interior with its artworks and restored sacred objects also invites discovery.

After extensive renovations, St. Nicholas Church reopened in June 2026. Among other things, the lighting concept, color design, columns, as well as sacred objects and paintings were restored.

As an "Open Church for the City," St. Nicholas is not only a place of faith but also a meeting point for music, culture, and encounters. Regular concerts, organ tours, and other events take place.
