The "Floating Gardens" in Flensburg
Four so-called "story telling gardens", installed by the project "Blumen bauen Brücken – Blomster bygger broer" (Flowers build Bridges) in Flensburg, Germany, as well as in Gråsten and Aabenraa on the Danish side of the Flensburg Fjord, make it possible to experience the native flora in an astonishingly different urban setting.
At the tip of the harbour (Hafenspitze), a floating footbridge invites visitors to literally take a walk on the fjord waters. The horseshoe-shaped footbridge reaches 14 metres into the water. Ten floating islands with year-round planted containers form the floating gardens. Here, people can meet, have a conversation, and experience nature in an urban space in a somewhat different way.
