Gendarmen Path – Hiking Along the Danish Coast

The Gendarmen Path is one of the most famous hiking trails in the German-Danish border region and leads along the Danish coast at the Flensburg Fjord. The historic coastal hiking trail largely follows the former control path of the Danish Border Gendarmerie and connects nature, history, and impressive views of the Flensburg Fjord.

Along the way, beaches, steep coasts, forests, and open coastal landscapes alternate. Time and again, there are viewpoints overlooking the fjord towards the German side. Historical traces and information panels along the route provide interesting insights into the history of border protection and the unique past of the region.

The Gendarmen Path runs between Padborg and Skovby and is divided into various stages. This makes it possible to explore the path flexibly as a single day hike or as a multi-day tour. The diverse coastal sections around Sønderborg, Gråsten, and Broager are particularly popular.
