Margarethenhof Flensburg – Historical Sugar Estate in the Captain's Quarter

The Margarethenhof in Flensburg is a historic farm complex in the Jürgensby district and a significant testimony to the trading and industrial history of the harbor city. The listed complex is located on Johannisstraße and is closely tied to Flensburg's history as a trading, rum, and sugar city.

In the 18th century, the former noble residence became an important economic estate. In 1762, a sugar refinery was established here, processing imported raw sugar from the Caribbean. This links the Margarethenhof directly to the historical West Indies trade and Flensburg's rum production.

From 1842, the estate was used as an iron foundry. Here, among other things, components for lighthouses on the Flensburg Fjord were produced. The various uses make the Margarethenhof an exciting example of Flensburg's transformation from a trading place to an industrial location.

Today, the Margarethenhof Flensburg presents itself as a picturesque ensemble of historic buildings, warehouses, and a green interior area. The historic garden with old trees is also part of the listed complex.

The Margarethenhof is part of the Captain's Path and can be ideally combined with a walk through the historic Captain's Quarter, along Sankt-Jürgen-Straße and to the Flensburg Fjord.
