The brass work Crusauer Kupfer- und Messingfabrik was one of the largest industrial plants in Denmark in its days. Among other things, ship plates were manufactured here, which protected the undersides of the tall wooden ships. And here is a strange occurrence: One of these old approximately 30x60 cm brass sheets was found in 2021 during a walk on a beach in South Africa. What had happened? In 1896, the (three-masted) bark "Volo" stranded on the coast of South Africa. The lower nave was covered with sheets from the old copper mill. The strollers sent a message to today's Kupfermühle (Danish: Kobbermølle) Museum and reported on their find. The brass sheet still remains in South Africa - but perhaps one day it will be on display again in the Copper Mill Museum as an exhibit of great historical importance.
