Great Street Flensburg – Historic Shopping Street in the Heart of the Old Town

The Great Street in Flensburg is one of the most famous streets in the historic city center. Together with Holm and Norderstraße, it forms the central north-south axis of the old town. As a pedestrian zone, it connects Nordermarkt with the southern city area and invites visitors to stroll, shop, and explore.

The street scene is characterized by numerous shops, cafés, and restaurants, as well as historic merchant courtyards, warehouses, and distinctive old town houses. The courtyards are reminiscent of Flensburg's past as an important trading place by the fjord. Particularly on the eastern side of the street, historic courtyard complexes extend towards the harbor.

The connection to Flensburg's rum trade is also visible. In the West India Warehouse between Great Street and Warehouse Line, goods from the former Danish West Indian Islands were stored, which were needed for rum production.

Today, the Great Street combines historic architecture with modern gastronomy and a variety of shopping options. Thanks to its central location, attractions such as Nordermarkt, St. Mary's Church, and historic merchant courtyards are easily accessible on foot.
