Kompagnietor Flensburg – Historical Gate at the Harbor

The Kompagnietor in Flensburg is one of the oldest preserved buildings in the city and stands directly at the Flensburg harbor at the Schiffbrücke. The current building was constructed from 1602 to 1604 as a meeting place for the Flensburg Schiffergelag.

Particularly noteworthy are the historical details on the building: In the gable, the Flensburg city coat of arms is displayed alongside the coats of arms of the Danish King Christian IV and his wife Anna Katharina. The historical flood marks on the facade also tell stories of severe storm surges and vividly illustrate the building's location directly at the harbor.

Inside, there is the tile hall with Dutch tiles, which is considered one of the special historical elements of the Kompagnietor. Today, the building houses the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI).

The Kompagnietor connects Flensburg's city history, seafaring, and harbor and is an interesting stop on a walk through the historic old town. From here, the Nordermarkt, St. Mary's Church, Norderstraße, and other sights of Flensburg's city center are easily accessible on foot.
