St. Mary's Church Flensburg – Historical Church at Nordermarkt

St. Mary's Church in Flensburg is one of the largest and most significant churches in the port city and shapes the historical cityscape around Nordermarkt. The history of the present Gothic brick church dates back to the 13th century; construction of the new building began in 1284.

Particularly noteworthy is the ornate decoration of the church. This includes the magnificent Renaissance altar from 1598, the richly adorned pulpit from the 16th century, as well as historical epitaphs and other art treasures. The medieval ceiling paintings and the distinctive crescent moon Madonna on the church tower also make St. Mary's Church a special cultural monument of Flensburg.
