Museum Harbor Flensburg – historic sailing ships and maritime tradition at the fjord

The Museum Harbor Flensburg is one of the special attractions of the fjord city and is a popular destination for all who wish to experience historic ships, maritime culture, and North German harbor flair. Located directly on the Flensburg Fjord, the Museum Harbor preserves the history of traditional seafaring and makes it tangible for visitors.

The Museum Harbor presents sailing professional vessels from local and coastal navigation that were once based in the Baltic Sea, the Belt and Sound, as well as in the Kattegat and Skagerrak. Today, several dozen historic traditional and professional sailing ships are anchored here, reminding us of the time when these ships shaped the image of Northern European coasts.

Among the maritime treasures of the Museum Harbor is, among others, the "DAGMAR AAEN" of polar researcher and author Arved Fuchs, which has found its home here. Also located in the small fishing harbor is the dinghy collection of the Museum Harbor, which is used for sailing education.

A highlight of the event calendar is the annual rum regatta – the largest gaff rig meet in Northern Europe. Then the Museum Harbor Flensburg transforms into a lively maritime promenade. Visitors can admire the historic sailing ships and, in some cases, also book spots to sail along on the rustic vessels.

The Museum Harbor is open to the public year-round. Gastronomic offerings in the vicinity invite for a break with a view of the water. The harbor area is mostly at ground level and easily accessible; however, access options may be limited for historic ships.
