Historic Captain's Quarter & St. Jürgen Street – Flensburg's Maritime Heritage

The historic Captain's Quarter in Flensburg-Jürgensby is one of the particularly charming corners of the harbor city. Around St. Jürgen Street and the adjacent small alleys, historical houses and idyllic gardens are lined up. The quarter recalls the time when fishermen, sailors, and captains lived here.

Characteristic of the Captain's Quarter Flensburg are the numerous narrow alleys that lead from St. Jürgen Street towards the Förde. Names like Steuermannsgang, Schiffergang, and Seemannsgang still refer to the maritime past of the quarter. Many of the historical houses are under monument protection and shape the special appearance of the district.

A special charm lies in the hillside location above the Flensburg Förde. From the Great St. Jürgen Stairway, a beautiful view opens up over the harbor and the opposite side of the Förde. In summer, blooming hollyhocks, small gardens, and lovingly designed façades create a particularly atmospheric ambiance.

The Captain's Quarter can be ideally explored on foot. The Captain's Path also leads through this area, connecting maritime history, historical architecture, and special viewpoints.
