Red Street Flensburg – Historical Yards and Unique Old Town Flair

The Red Street in Flensburg is one of the most beautiful historical streets of the harbor city. The picturesque old town alley connects Südermarkt with Neumarkt and is especially known for its historical merchant and craftsman yards.

In the past, the Red Street was an important trade and thoroughfare heading south and part of the historical Oxen Road from Denmark to Altona. Merchants and travelers would stop here while goods were stored and horses were tended to in the backyards. The characteristic yard facilities, which are now meticulously restored, bear witness to this history.

Today, the historical yards invite strolling, discovering, and lingering. Small, owner-operated shops, crafts, galleries, fashion and design stores, as well as cafés, restaurants, and cozy wine bars make the Red Street a special shopping and experience mile in Flensburg. A total of five historical yards line up like a small string of pearls.

Especially in summer, the Red Street becomes a stage for events in the historical backyards. Since 1995, the Flensburg Yard Culture has been bringing concerts, theater, cabaret, and other cultural experiences to the yards.
